Arfos gimimas // The Origin of the Harp
Žanras/genre: chamber piece /vocal
Instr.: canto / arpa / vl or cello
Perf.:
Kauno muzikinio teatro arfininkė, knygos apie šį instrumentą autorė Valerija Baranauskienė pasiūlė Sergejaus Tanejevo (1856-1915) dainą „Arfos gimimas“ aranžuoti arfai. Sutikau, nors arfa nėra man pakankamai žinomas instrumentas ir visuomet jam rašydamas jaučiu tam tikrą nerimą – grojimo technika gana kebli ir kompozitoriui pakankamai grėsminga. Tad buvo puiki proga instrumentą pažinti geriau. Aranžuotę atlikau vertindamas instrumento galimybes, kūrinio stilių ir Thomo Moore (1478-1535) eilių grožį bei prasmę. Smuiką galima keisti violončele, įmanoma atlikti ir be vokalo – atlikau keletą versijų.
Kaunas Musical Theatre harpist Valerija Baranauskienė, author of a book about this instrument, suggested arranging Sergei Taneyev’s (1856-1915) song “The Origin of the Harp” for the harp. I agreed, although the harp is not an instrument I know well enough and I always feel a certain anxiety when writing for it – the playing technique is quite tricky and quite threatening for the composer. So it was a great opportunity to get to know the instrument better. I made the arrangement by assessing the capabilities of the instrument, the style of the piece and the beauty and meaning of Thomas Moore’s (1478-1535) verses. The violin can be replaced by a cello, and it is possible to perform it without vocals – I have made several versions.
