Any contact with creative work of Salvador Dali (1904 – 1989) is very dangerous as it is clear beforehand the difference in size. But as the Angel, following God‘s work, said – why not try. So the two of us – the writer Herkus Kunčius and I – tried. Even more – the culprits were the leaders of the Choir “Jauna muzika”, who wanted to organize/have a surrreal party. Such kind of surreal artistic delivery is common and acceptable to Lithuanians. We are more masters of absurd than surrealists but now, when the world is a place of embarrasment and madness, the art of Dali strange as it may seem, propagates so much missed humanism.
Dali‘s wife Gala (Elena Diakonova, 1894-1982) is the second most important part of the genius in opera that is why the two names are pieced together in the title of the opera. A smart woman always dominate the mad genius life but she does it so artfully that never become the first lady. I have never met Her or Him alive, but an unexpected meeting with them in the wax museum in Amsterdam and the picture that my wife Gražina has taken there is a little part of total surrealism.. The surrealism that started and was finished together with Dali always indulged in himself. So standing beside him and experiencing the moments of false greatness one become grotesque.
