Žanras/genre: piano sextet
Instr.: 4 violins cello fp
Ši kompozicija – ne pramogai, be gražių melodijų ir efektingų allegro. Ji tokia, kokia tuomet, 2004-siais man pasigirdo. Dabar jos likimą spręs ji pati.
In 2004, when the Vilnius Quartet began, second violinist Petras Kunca asked me to create a one-movement piece for the small ensemble he had assembled. While searching for an idea and turning the pages of the Old Testament, the idea for „Adagio Apokalypsis” was born. I discovered that the apocalypse is constant, and survival is the state of humanity under its conditions. The composition came easily, after playing each instrument’s voice in real time in the Cubase SX program. However, due to the musical nature of the piece, the opus was not very attractive to the performers. Thus, that almost half-hour-long piece remained only in the score, which lay dormant on my computer until the summer of 2025. I came across this work while organizing the archive. As soon as I opened the now-unused Cubase program, I transferred the entire score to Sibelius format. Gradually, editing only individual bars, I brought the entire score into the ensemble of a piano sextet and now I am returning it to the archive with a somewhat clearer conscience – the opus has taken on, I hope, a form more acceptable to performers. This composition is not for entertainment, without beautiful melodies and effective allegro. It is as it sounded to me then, in 2004. Now its fate will be decided by itself.
