Salvador Dali (1904-1989) is very dangerous for someone who comes into contact with his work, because it is immediately clear that the sizes differ significantly. However, as the Angel accompanying God’s works said, you can try. So, together with the writer Herkus Kunčius, we tried. Of course, all this would not have happened if it were not for the leaders of the choir „Jauna muzika”, who decided to dress in surrealism. Such artistic language is not familiar to Lithuanians. We are more masters of the absurd than surrealists, but now, when everything is confused and crazy, Dali’s art radiates greatness and, strangely enough, the noble humanism that everyone misses.
Dali’s wife Gala (Elena Diakonova, 1894-1982), who is the second most important in the opera, is an inseparable part of the genius and therefore these two names are combined in the title of the opera. A smart woman always dominates the life of a brilliantly crazy man, but so skillfully that she never becomes the first lady.
Of course, I did not know Dali, but the unexpected meeting with Salvador in Amsterdam, already turned into wax, which my wife Grazina immortalized in a photograph, is a tiny particle of total surrealism. Surrealism, which began and ended with Dali enjoying himself. So those who stand next to him and experience moments of supposed greatness become somewhat comical. The entire opera-zarzuela, although in low-quality video and audio, can be found in Video I part / II part / III part
